Task Forces

The Board shall be responsible for the creation and destruction of COG Task Forces.

  1. Petitions for the creation or destruction of a task force shall be presented in writing to the Secretary. Petitions for creation shall include a description, a purpose, and an explanation of leadership structure. All Task Forces must have one Task Force Leader, who shall serve on the Board of Directors.
  2. No Task Force may be created that has a duality of purpose with another Task Force.
  3. The Secretary shall announce the petition to the membership through the ``cog-announce'' mailing list.
  4. Petitions shall be presented at the next meeting of the Board of Directors by the author(s), be subject to debate by the Board, and then voted upon by the Board in a public ballot. A 2/3 majority vote is necessary for the creation or destruction of a Task Force.

Task Forces exist as semi-autonomous organizational units within COG. Task Forces have the following rights:

  1. The right to use the COG name, logo, and resources for publicity and outreach.
  2. The right to petition the Board of Directors for the opportunity to request money from the Student Union. Upon approval of such a petition, the Task Force leader must accompany the Treasurer to the Student Union meeting.
  3. The right to book rooms on campus using the COG name.
  4. The right to create and maintain a web site within the COG web space.
  5. The right to plan and hold meetings and events.
  6. The right to internal self-governance.
  7. Any rights of COG not explicitly granted to the board.

The Board of Directors may only revoke these rights by destroying a Task Force.
